Round 1 Results

Badin, NC—Due to heavy rain and dangerous weather, the 11^th NC Middle School Championship at Badin Inn GC in Badin, NC was shortened to 18 holes giving round one leaders North State Academy of Greensboro, NC their first victory TYGA championship victory. North State Academy was represented by the girls’ champion Haeley Wotnosky, Carson Castelli and Grayson Wotnosky. Daniel Middle School in Raleigh, NC finished four shots back at 148. 2010 champions Ravenscroft of Raleigh, NC and three time champion (2003, 2008 & 2009) West Pine Middle of Pinehurst, NC finished tied for third place at 152.

Haeley Wotnosky, a 12 year old eight grader, shot an even par 70 that gave her a 9 shot victory. Anna McDonald of Hickory finished in second place with a 79. Joining Wotnosky and McDonald on the all state girls’ team are Elizabeth Nguyen of Pinehurst, NC, Natalie Petersen of Holly Springs, NC, Kathryn Carson of Mooresville, NC and Julianne Strauch of Lewisville.

In the boys’ championship, Grant Smith’s of Charlotte, NC round of three under par 67 gave him a one shot victory over Matthew Sharpstene of Cornelius, NC. Other boys who earned all-state honors were William Hughes of Charlotte, NC, Jimbo Stanley of Raleigh, NC, Michael Childress of Salisbury, NC, Cole Pridgen of Warsaw, NC and Nicholas Lyerly of Salisbury, NC.

This annual junior championship is conducted by the Tarheel Youth Golf Association, a division the Carolinas Golf Association.
