Lewis Completes Comeback & Petersen Repeats

HIGH POINT, N.C. (July 14, 2016) – Second round results from the Tarheel Youth Golf Association High Point Junior Open at Oak Hollow Golf Course in High Point, N.C. on July 14, 2016.

Challenged with another hot summer day, Justin Lewis of High Point, N.C., was able to battle to heat to shoot three-under-par 69 to win the 2016 High Point Junior Open posting a total score of 144. After shooting a 75 during the first round, Lewis knew he had to “attack every flag, be very aggressive off the tee, and run all the putts by the hole (not leaving anything short) to have a chance to make birdies” in order to have a chance to make a comeback. “My short-game was very good and I got up and down a lot on the front side. The tee shots challenged me because the holes were a little weird for the way I shape the ball but my driver was very good today.” In the end, Lewis was able to overcome the challenges the course presented and took home the title.

Defending champion Natalie Petersen of Holly Springs, N.C., was able to put together another impressive round to shoot one-under-par 71, for a total score of 138, and take home the title for the second consecutive year. “Today I played pretty solid, I just had one hole that I wish I could take back. Other than that I was four-under-par through the 14^th hole, two birdies and an eagle on No. 5.” When asked about the keys to her success, Petersen stated, “when I didn’t have a birdie chance just getting up and down for par like my really good up and down on No. 11 making a 15-footer to save par, which kept me going to make birdie on No. 12.” She was able to once again beat her score from last year of 73 at Oak Hollow. The defending champion was able to beat her total score by five strokes during her successful title defense.

Boy’s 16-18 Age Division

Justin Lewis High Point, N.C., was able to post an impressive round of 69 to come from behind and win the 2016 High Point Junior Open.

Boy’s 14-15 Age Division

Gibby Shea of Charlotte, N.C., continued to play well posting a score of 76 for a total score of 149 to win the Boy’s 14-15 age division.

Boy’s 12-13 Age Division

Paxton Jones of Greensboro, N.C., shot a solid round of 73 to win the Boy’s 12-13 age division with a total score of 145.

Girl’s 14-18 Age Division

Natalie Petersen of Holly Springs, N.C., was able to win the High Point Junior Open for the second consecutive year by shooting 71 for a total of 138.
