 Cannon Catches Fire to Win North State High School Challenge; Brown Holds on for Medalist Honors

 

Kannapolis, N.C. (March 25, 2017) --  Final round results from the 5th North State High School Challenge at the Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, N.C. on March 24-25, 2017.

 

 

The Cannon School of Concord, N.C. caught fire in the second round of the 5th North State High School Challenge to win by five shots over the first round leader, Broughton High School. The Cannon School started the day two shots behind Broughton HS but fired an astounding 279, five under par in the second round. Defending champion Myers Park of Charlotte, N.C. finished in third 23 shots back at 592.

 

First round individual leader Zach Brown of RJ Reynolds HS in Winston-Salem won the medalist honors by finishing with a two round total of 136, six under par. It wouldn't come easy for Zach as Michael Sanders of the Cannon School would fire a second round 66, Five under par to force a sudden death playoff. However Michael Sanders great play would be topped on the first playoff hole as Zach Brown rolled in a 10 foot put for birdie and the victory. Jimbo Stanley of Broughton HS and Lansdon Robbins of Cannon School would finish tied for third with a two day total of 138.

 

 

 This annual high school tournament is conducted by the Tarheel Youth Golf Association and the NC Junior Golf Foundation.
