Carolina Cup Raises $61,000 for Three Organizations

Regional Junior Golf Competition Completes 10th Successful Event

The 2019 Carolina Cup, a junior golf competition with players from North Carolina and South Carolina, recently donated $61,000 to the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation, founded in 2004 by Barbara and Jack Nicklaus, The First Tee of the Sandhills and the Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) grant program of the American Junior Golf Association.

The Ryder-Cup style competition featured 28 of the best junior male players from the two neighboring states on October 26-27 at The Country Club of North Carolina's Cardinal Course, Pinehurst Resort's Cradle Short Course and the famed Pinehurst No. 2.

To participate, each junior is required to raise at least $1,000 for charity as their entry fee into the event. In the 10 years since its inception, the Carolina Cup has raised nearly $500,000. The event is part of the American Junior Golf Association’s Leadership Links Program.

The Country Club of North Carolina member Jackson Van Paris, 16, of Pinehurst hosted the event for the fourth year. He is a junior at Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines, N.C. and a three-time Rolex Junior All-American by the AJGA.

“It is really cool to be able to play at my home club and at Pinehurst in a high-level but fun competition that raises money for people who need some help,” said Van Paris, a first-team Rolex Junior All-American. “We are lucky to have the resources to play a game we love but we can use our golf skills to help make life better for others. That’s awesome.”

The participants were: Davis Adams of Raleigh, N.C., Charlie Barr of Salisbury, N.C., Jackson Bode of Pinehurst, N.C. (also of CCNC), Daniel Boone of Fuqua Varina, N.C., Colin Browning of Charlotte, N.C., Clinton Daly of Charlotte, N.C, Nicholas Dunlap of Greer, S.C., Colin Dutton (of Foxfire Golf and Country Club) of Foxfire Village, N.C., Luke Edwards of Chapel Hill, N.C., Turner Edwards ($11,050) of Charlotte, N.C., Peter Fountain of Raleigh, N.C., Frank Gilliam of Raleigh, N.C., Jonathan Griz of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Minor Hinson III of Charlotte, N.C., Jonathan Honeywell (of the Country Club of Whispering Pines) of Whispering Pines, N.C., Adam Hunt of Columbia, S.C., Ben Jordan of Greensboro, N.C., Owen Kose of Holly Springs, N.C., Josh Lendach of Raleigh, N.C., Pearse Lucas of Charlotte, N.C., Todd Moyer ($13,642) of Cornelius, N.C., Tyler Partee of Thomasville, N.C., Hampton Roberts of Cary, N.C., Hank Robins of Salisbury, N.C., Nick Rubino of Charlotte, N.C., Caleb Surratt of Matthews, N.C., Drew Van Dyke of Charlotte, N.C., Jackson Van Paris (CCNC) of Pinehurst, N.C.
