SNOW HILL, N.C. – After a rainy Saturday at the 11th TYGA Bojangles Junior Open, Warren Stiglitz of Denver, N.C., claimed a two-stroke victory at Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill, N.C. Stiglitz shot 68 and 69 on Saturday and closed his championship run with a 70 on Sunday.

Stiglitz entered the final round with a six-stroke lead at 7-under par. He was the only player in the field to record both rounds on Saturday below par. After 36 holes, both Michael Snyder of Lillington, N.C. and Noah Yeary of Greensboro, N.C. were tied for second.

On Sunday, Stiglitz shot even par 36 on the front nine, but his lead shrank to three strokes after Hall Chapman of Chapel Hill, N.C., recorded six straight birdies on holes 3 through 8 before finishing his first nine with a bogey. Both Stiglitz and Chapman carded birdies on holes 11 and 12 and bogeys on hole 13. Chapman then played his final five holes 2-under par to post the lowest round of the tournament — an 8-under 64 — and finish at 7-under for the championship.

While Chapman’s late charge wasn’t enough to overtake Stiglitz for the overall title, his 10-birdie performance earned him the first-place trophy in the Boys’ 16–18 Flight.

Stiglitz recorded a bogey at hole 17, cutting his lead to one stroke. After his drive on No. 18 found the rough, he delivered a gutsy shot from over 270 yards out over water to reach the green and two-putted for birdie to seal the win.

“I was a little nervous, but it feels good to win again,” said Stiglitz, whose last victory came at the Daniel Meggs Memorial Junior in August 2024.

He credited his Saturday performance and confident strategy on the final hole.

“I was really trying to stick to my game. My whole life I’ve always played aggressive. On No. 18, I thought if I’m going to win this, I’m going to win it playing aggressively,” Stiglitz said.

The Tarheel Youth Golf Association would like to thank Cutter Creek Golf Club Owner Cam McRae, Head Golf Professional Mike Wesko, and Golf Course Superintendent Nick Gibson, along with the entire Cutter Creek staff, for their support in hosting another outstanding championship.

TYGA to adopt Update to CGA Rankings

Southern Pines, NC – October 29, 2024 – The Carolinas Golf Association will be implementing a new tiered system in 2025 for the Carolinas Junior Golf Rankings.  The tiered rankings system will provide a clearer distinction between events. With this update, elite amateur events and state/regional amateur tournaments will be included in the Carolinas Junior Rankings.

“After extensive research, we’ve addressed minor issues in our current system, and believe the transition to a tiered approach will simplify the rankings while improving accuracy,” said Chris Zeh, Director of Junior Golf. “Our goal is to create a ranking that better reflects junior golf in the Carolinas and promotes continued participation in the game of golf.”

Events will be classified into different tiers based on their strength of competition level and event history, making the ranking process more straightforward for parents and junior golfers.   The simplified framework aims to help them select appropriate events for their playing ability.

These changes aim to better reflect the competitive landscape of junior golf in the Carolinas and ensure that all eligible events within our region contribute to a player’s overall ranking.   The tiered ranking system will take effect in January 2025, event tiers will be announced in early December.

Key Updates:

  • New Tiered Structure: Events will be placed in specific tiers, allowing families to easily assess the competition level for each tournament.
  • Inclusion of Elite and State/Regional Amateur Events: These events will now contribute to the rankings, encouraging players to compete in a wide range of tournaments.
  • Effective January 1, 2025
